How do I tie my points to state plane coordinates?

There are several ways to tie your points to state plane coordinates, including GPS RTK or locating your nearest NGS monument. Deciding which one may depend on where you are surveying. For instance, if you do not have a Hotspot connection due to no cell signal, you will not be able to connect to the nearest CORS station. In this case you would need to locate the nearest NGS monument (You can find the locations of all NGS monuments and CORS stations in the GRN™ map viewer, along with full attributes and datasheet links!). Below are steps to assist those who may not be familiar with connecting to the CORS station for a RTK GPS Survey!

  1. Select your configuration settings for your survey software in your data collector.
  2. Add a new survey style and set the base and rover options to RTK. (You may need to contact your survey software provider to further assist on this step)
  3. Turn on your rover, data collector, and cellular phone.
  4. Make sure that Bluetooth on all devices are enabled and turned on.
  5. Connect your data collector to your phone's Hotspot for an internet connection.
  6. Create a new job, choose the RTK measure option that you created in the previous steps, and select "Measure Points". (This name may vary between different software)
  7. Wait for the rover to connect and fill out the required information (antenna height, point number, etc.)
  8. Now set up on your point and select measure!
